Why we started a union#
The student union is a shared space where students come together as a collective voice and a supportive community. It’s dedicated to championing student well-being, standing by one another in personal, local, and institutional matters, and enriching academic and social lives through meaningful connections, community engagement, and vibrant activities.
Support for Students#
Provide assistance in both personal and public matters through solidarity, care, and collective action. Provide a welcoming, alternative space for those who may feel unsure about raising concerns directly with the university.
Create opportunities for students to connect meaningfully with the local Ísafjörður community, fostering a sense of belonging beyond the classroom. Support students in becoming active, engaged members of the community.
Continuity and Representation#
Ensure the continuity of ideas and progress by carrying efforts forward across student cohorts. Advocate for students’ well-being, addressing critical needs like mental health resources and housing support. Share responsibilities to ease the workload on individual representatives, promoting collective labour.
Advocacy and Collaboration#
Champion peace, equity, justice, and environmental sustainability, through collective action. Build strong partnerships with other unions and local organizations to amplify shared goals.
Social and Cultural Activities#
Host events, charity drives, and activities to nurture a sense of belonging, enrich the student experience, and contribute positively to the community.
